This article describes how to create currency pair (Forex) icons using country flag images for use with an Excel Ribbon Gallery. Only elementary graphics design skills are required.
Royalty-free flag images The Forex icons were created by combining 2 flags into a single landscape image. Country flags are among the most commonly used images, so it is easy to find stock image libraries. We opted for a flag icon repository licensed under the Public Domain. The high quality vector SVG flag collection is available in a public GitHub repository. Each flag has a 2 letter label, which corresponds to the ISO-3166-1 alpha-2 code of the country name. Besides the vectors, bitmap images are available in 2 sizes (square or 4:2), 4 templates (flat, simple, fancy, glossy) in resolutions from 16x16 up to 512x512. |
Merging Images
The images can be combined into a single icon using any image manipulation software, such as the popular GNU GIMP. However, an online photo gallery tool proved much easier to use. Make-Photo-Gallery is a free photo merging online tool, which is very easy to configure. |
